About
My name is Kendra Atkins-Boyce, MSW. KarysMa Birth Counseling is my business, named after two of my favorite things, my older daughter, Karys, and birth. As a child, I became fascinated with birth stories, and as I grew up, I began to see how many experiences in our lives are births. I've supported clients and friends through their births as a birth and postpartum doula, and now I want help you through the many births you are facing. New jobs, new roles in your family or relationships, and new challenges and obstacles can be very stressful. The way I see it, doulas and therapists both guide and support people through pain, disappointment, and so many other human emotions. You don't have to go through the births in your life alone.
After years as an English teacher, a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful humans, a doula, and a writer, I went back to school at 42 to get my Master's degree in Social Work (MSW). By pursuing an advanced degree, I sought to find new ways to serve people who are facing depression, anxiety, life transitions, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs).
Through life experience and professional training I have gained tools for making sense of life's struggles and difficult phases; I would love to share what I have learned with you.
